Welcome, this month, to Dr. Cheryl Pacheco and her colleagues at Discover Chiropractic on Huron Street in Stratford, Ontario.
If you are looking for an excellent chiropractor or massage therapist, this is the place for you. And I know what I’m talking about, because I am a regular customer!
This morning I had a conversation with a young entrepreneur I know. And as so often happens, he taught me something.
One of the reasons I truly enjoy working with promising young entrepreneurs is that they keep reminding me of valuable lessons I’ve learned and forgotten. And, more often than not, they show me a new twist along the way.
To get to the point of this post, this particular conversation reminded me of some books that have taught me very valuable skills in the past and deserve to be revisited periodically.
The E Myth Revisited is a book that anyone contemplating following their passion and starting a business really should read. It is not meant to discourage you from doing just that, but it does give a realistic picture of what life in the world of the small business owner can be like.
And what I like best about this book (in fact what I like to see in any business book) are the suggestions for ways you can apply these common-sense ideas to your own business. This is definitely not a book on the theory of running your own business, it is a book about the reality of how to succeed at running your own business.
Fierce Conversations is one of those rare books that can change your life. We can all relate to those conversations that we know are important and that we just don’t want to have. This is another book with a feather light touch on theory and tremendous emphasis on practical application, with lots of examples. The great advantage of this book is that you can read it one chapter at a time and start practicing your fierce conversations immediately. Fierce Conversations is not only about communicating at work, you can take its ideas home with you too.

I purchased a notebook PC with Windows Vista pre-installed on it in October 2008. I did not WANT Windows Vista, I wanted Windows XP. I was, however, informed that I could only purchase Vista at that time as it was the latest and best operating system from Microsoft. Now, one year later, I see that Vista is being replaced by Windows 7 for free, though, I do not qualify since I was an early adopter.
I do not like Microsoft products. I will go out of my way to avoid using Microsoft products. This latest fiasco with Vista reinforces my thoughts on Microsoft products. The Vista replacement program can be roughly compared to pouring salt into an open, festering wound.
I doubt I will hear anything back from you. In fact, if you are not planning on offering me a free “upgrade” to a functioning operating system, I would prefer to not hear from you.
Who doesn’t love to have a makeover? Special Events has just launched their new website with a whole new look. Why not take a few minutes and pay them a visit?
Make a change. Take a stand. Climate change is real and it is here. I challenge you to make a change to your lifestyle today and commit to it.
Use less plastic. Walk when you can, drive when you must. Recycle. Have one meatless day each week. Challenge grocery stores to offer local produce without packaging. Turn off your lights. Turn down your thermostat. Compost. Target no waste for one day each week. Watch the video Home by Jan Arthus Bertrand. Watch it again with your kids. Recycle.
If you are a “dog person” you will understand what I mean when I say there is nothing better than coming home to your dog after a long day. The little guy (or maybe your dog is a big guy) just wants to let you know he missed you and can’t wait to play and maybe have a tummy rub.
Roël over at Roël Photography (who also happens to be my husband and my partner in doggie parenting Zeus) is now officially in the dog photography business. If you have a few spare minutes and would enjoy seeing some adorable dogs, you can check it out at www.roelphoto.com/dogs.
I am really happy to welcome Raintree Design to Katamat. Timothy St. Louis is a very talented designer located in Stratford and working in both Toronto and Stratford.
When Tim decided it was time to update the look of his website, I was thrilled he selected Katamat to work with him.
Tim, it has been exciting working with you and getting to know you.
